Ride Together Rewards: the Baltimore Vanpool Incentive Program & the Baltimore Carpool Incentive Program
Have you heard about our two new rewards programs? The Ride Together Rewards: the Baltimore Vanpool Incentives Program (VIP) and the Baltimore Carpool Incentive Program (CIP). Commuters in the Greater Baltimore Region now
have two new options to improve their trips to work, save money and reduce their vehicle miles traveled. These rewards programs intend to help commuters find convenient, affordable and sustainable transportation options by offering funding to further reduce the expenses of already cost-efficient forms of commuting.
Ride Together Rewards News! We are thrilled to have 63 vanpools and 12 carpools currently enrolled in the Ride Together Rewards
program! If you are interested in learning more and signing up, keep reading!
Baltimore Vanpool Incentive Program (VIP) Through the VIP, participants in the Baltimore region now qualify for a $500 monthly incentive, which alleviates the total cost of operating the van. The VIP is funded by MDOT and administered by Commuter Connections to encourage commuters to start or join a vanpool. Participants can choose an available qualifying vanpool
vehicle from a selection of Commute with Enterprise makes and models, including crossovers, SUVs, minivans and large passenger vans. Each vanpool rider pays a portion of the total cost, which covers all expenses such as gas, insurance, maintenance, and repairs. Commute with Enterprise is one of the largest vanpool providers in the country and currently the only approved provider of vanpools in the region. Spotlights: Prince George's County and Go Howard
Christian Bacon’s Journey from Public Health to Transportation Equity in Prince George's County Today, Christian Bacon walks the same Perrywood Elementary School hallways she once walked as a student—but this time, as an advocate for transportation equity and access in her community. Christian was brand-new to the Transportation Demand Management (TDM) world when she began her role as a Marketing and Outreach Specialist for Prince George’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation, but it quickly became a natural fit for her skill set and
passion for serving her community. Her prior public health training proved invaluable, providing her with a unique perspective that allows her to understand the diverse backgrounds that exist in the County and approach challenges with flexibility and empathy.
Connor, Dylan, and Pat: A Trio of Transportation Planners from Howard County Meet Connor, Dylan, and Pat! We had the chance to catch up with this trio of transportation planners who are working to further multimodal initiatives and programs in Howard County. Allison Calkins, a Planning Supervisor with a focus on Transportation Demand Management (TDM),
says that these three transportation professionals complement each other’s skills and experiences and “genuinely enjoy showing up to help the public understand all of their transportation options.” Read on to hear from them directly about their work in Howard County and what they enjoy most about it!

The Motor Vehicle Administration Highway Safety Office's Summer Travel Tips
As the summer driving season begins, the Motor Vehicle Administration Highway Safety Office reminds everyone of the most common causes of fatal crashes: speeding/aggressive driving, impairment by alcohol and/or drugs,
distraction and failure to use seat restraints. As you travel this weekend and throughout the summer, please remember these tips: - BE FOCUSED. Cellphones are the most common distractions behind the wheel, but drivers can also be distracted by other passengers, by eating or simply by adjusting the radio. When driving,
designate a passenger to handle duties that could cause a distraction.
- SLOW DOWN. Give yourself plenty of time and be patient. Make sure you have enough time to react to situations around you.
- BE SOBER.
Driving impaired – whether by drugs, alcohol or both – is illegal. If you plan to drink, make a plan to have a sober ride home.
- BUCKLE UP. Maryland law requires every driver and passenger wear a seat belt in a vehicle – every trip, every time. If passengers older than 16 are not wearing a seat belt, the driver can receive an $83 ticket for
each offense. It takes three seconds to secure a seat belt, and statistics show wearing one is the best way to reduce the chance of a fatality in a crash.
- MOVE OVER. Maryland's Move Over law requires drivers to move over one lane for stopped vehicles displaying any type of caution signal or warning lights. If you cannot move over because of
traffic, slow down.
- BE PREPARED. Make sure your vehicle is ready for a road trip. If you have a breakdown or an emergency, move the vehicle off the roadway, if possible. If you cannot, remain inside your vehicle and call #77 for assistance.
