Bike AAA President Jon Korin (left) and Maryland Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee (MBPAC) Chair Jon Morrison joined MDOT Secretary Greg Slater and former MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn (right) to announce the start of full size bicycle access on the Camden and Brunswick MARC lines. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) Pedestrian Safety Action Plan

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP) is a year-long initiative to develop strategies and prioritize needs and improvements using safety data, public input, and expert analysis to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety along state roadways. The PSAP is part of MDOT SHA’s overarching Context Driven framework.

MDOT’s Pedestrian Subcommittee Meeting June 24th

The Maryland Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee (MBPAC) recently initiated a Pedestrian Subcommittee – to help focus initiatives addressing walking and walkability. The next meeting of the MBPAC Pedestrian Subcommittee will be held virtually on June 24, 2021 from 10 to 11:30 am.

The summer meeting of the MBPAC will take place online Friday, July 23rd at 9 am.

Walktober 2021

Get ready to celebrate walking! MDOT is actively engaging new and existing partnerships and activities for an exciting return of Walktober for 2021. We have a great line-up of speakers scheduled to lead a new series of “Walkinars” (walk-focused webinars) on Thursdays throughout the month. Check the schedule and plan to join or lead a walk for Walk Maryland Day on October 6th.

MDOT Kim Lamphier Bikeways Network Program

Thanks to all applicants who applied for this year’s round of competitive grant funding under the MDOT Kim Lamphier Bikeways Network Program.

The application window closed June 4th, and MDOT received 21 applications requesting over $8 million in funding. Awards will be announced in the fall, along with Transportation Alternatives (TAP) and Recreational Trails (RTP) program awards.
