MDOT Urban Tree Grant Program: Applications Ongoing
MDOT continues to accept applications for its Urban Tree Grant Program, which supports tree planting initiatives in communities affected by transportation projects. Eligible applicants can request up to $5,000 per project, with additional funding available for approved pocket forest efforts.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with the next planting deadline set for July 15. Submissions must be completed through the Maryland OneStop portal and include approval from the appropriate County Forestry Board. Purple Line Small Business Grant Program: 2026 Application Rounds
MDOT continues to provide financial support in 2026 to small businesses impacted by Purple Line construction through two remaining grant rounds. The program offers ongoing assistance to help corridor businesses manage
construction-related disruptions and maintain operations. 2026 Application Deadlines: - Round 2 - July 31, 2026
- Round 3 - November 7, 2026
Eligible businesses can

MDOT 2026 Grants Roadshow: Regional Workshops Completed
MDOT successfully hosted the 2026 Grants Roadshow regional workshops across Maryland in March, bringing together local partners and stakeholders for a series of in-person sessions focused on available funding
opportunities and application strategies. Each workshop highlighted regionally relevant programs, key requirements, and practical approaches for developing competitive submissions.
Open Federal IIJA Opportunities
FTA: All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP) - This program offers competitive grant funding to improve accessibility at public transit stations that are not
fully ADA-compliant. Eligible activities include design and construction of elevators, ramps, accessible pathways, and communication systems. Eligible applicants include public transit agencies and state or local transportation entities, with joint applications permitted. Applications are due May 1, 2026. USDOT: Small Community Air Service Development
Program (SCASDP) - This program provides competitive funding to help small and underserved communities improve and expand commercial air service. Eligible activities include service subsidies, revenue guarantees, marketing and promotion efforts, and other initiatives to enhance air service availability and affordability at local airports. Eligible applicants are public entities, including individual communities
or consortia, with only one application permitted per community. Cost sharing is not required but is viewed favorably, and awards vary based on project scope and merit. Applications must be submitted by May 4, 2026. ARC: Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies (ARISE) -
This program makes funding available on a competitive basis for multi-state projects that advance regional economic growth across the Appalachian region. Eligible activities include planning and implementation efforts related to infrastructure, workforce development, business growth, and community capacity aligned with ARC priorities. Eligible applicants include public agencies, Tribes, higher education institutions, and nonprofits working in partnership across at least two states. Full
applications (by invitation only) are due May 15, 2026. FHWA: Accelerated Innovation Deployment (AID) Demonstration - This program allocates funding on a competitive basis to support the deployment and demonstration of innovative technologies and practices in highway transportation projects, with the goal of
improving safety, accelerating project delivery, enhancing infrastructure performance, and promoting sustainability. Eligible activities span all project phases, including planning, financing, design, construction, and operations, and focus on advancing proven innovations with broad application potential. For FY 2026, applications are due May 26, 2026. USDOT: Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) - This competitive grant program provides funding to support comprehensive efforts aimed at reducing roadway fatalities and serious injuries for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and motorists. The program funds a range of activities, including the development and enhancement of safety action plans, supplemental
planning and demonstration initiatives, and the implementation of projects and strategies identified through those plans. SS4A emphasizes data-driven, systemwide approaches grounded in the Safe System Approach, with a focus on improving safety outcomes, advancing equitable investments, and supporting innovative, scalable solutions across communities of varying sizes and capacities. For FY 2026, applications are due May 26, 2026. Three informational webinars will be offered: EDA: Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance
Program - This program provides competitive funding to support infrastructure, workforce, and economic recovery projects in distressed communities. Eligible activities include public works construction, broadband and utilities, workforce facilities, business incubators, revolving loan funds, and economic development planning aligned with a regional CEDS. Eligible applicants include states,
local governments, Tribes, nonprofits, economic development organizations, and public-private partnerships.
