Charles County Secures $10 Million for Transit Improvements
In partnership with Charles County, the Maryland Transit
Administration (MTA) has successfully secured $10,000,016 in federal support through the FY25 Federal Administration’s Bus and Low-
and Low-Emission Grant Program for the County’s Locally Operated Transit System (LOTS). This award will fund an 18,000-square-foot transit maintenance and operations facility that expands the system and improves long-term service reliability. With
NEPA and Design & Engineering complete, the County is ready to build a modern center featuring 12,000 square feet of fleet maintenance space, expanded parking for up to 60 buses, a drive-through wash, state-of-the-art shop equipment, and enhanced driver amenities.
New MDOT Applications Under Active Consideration Appalachian Trail U.S. Route 40A Pedestrian Crossing
The State Highway Administration (SHA) is planning to submit a $550K federal funding request through the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) to improve safety for Appalachian Trail users at the midblock crossing of U.S.
Route 40A in South Mountain State Park, where trail traffic intersects a three-lane roadway with limited visibility due to vertical and horizontal curves. With pedestrians exposed to 50 feet of roadway and no additional safety infrastructure in place, the project aims to reduce risks and enhance safe access between the trail and adjacent National Park Service land. |
