Wicomico County Awarded $680K for Ferry Service Enhancements
Congratulations to Wicomico County for securing $680,926
in federal funding from the Federal Highway Administration’s Ferry Boat Program. Announced by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, this award will support the Wicomico County Department of Public Works’ Roads Division in enhancing ferry service operations. The Ferry Boat Program provides cost-effective travel options for work, tourism, and commerce across the nation, funding the construction and operation of ferry
boats, terminals, and maintenance facilities. Wicomico County joins jurisdictions across 35 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa in benefiting from this year’s $175 million allocation.
New MDOT Applications Under Active Consideration
Seagirt Marine Terminal Berth I/II Modernization. The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is planning to submit a $25 million federal funding request through the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) to modernize two key berths at the Port of Baltimore’s primary container facility. The project, led by terminal operator Ports America
Chesapeake (PAC), will include structural repairs, dredging to 50 feet, fascia wall and crane beam modifications, and installation of new fenders and mooring devices. These upgrades will address capacity constraints, accommodate Ultra Large Container Vessels, and support long-term growth, with PAC contributing $33.25 million toward the total $58.25 million project cost. Construction is expected to begin in early 2027. |

Maryland Call for Projects: FY 2027-2029 FLAP Funding
The Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD) is
accepting applications for the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) in Maryland for FY 2027 through 2029. - Eligible applicants:
State, county, tribal, and local agencies coordinating with Federal Land Management Agencies; about $3.8M available for Maryland.
- Program goal: Improve safe, reliable access to
federal lands, focusing on high-use recreation and economic sites.
- Eligible projects: Capital improvements, enhancements, surface preservation, transit, planning, and
research.
- Application period: September 1 to December 1, 2025; 100% federal funding, no match required.
