Have you checked out our new BaltimoreCommutes.org website yet? Now is the perfect time to take a fresh look at your commuting options. National Dessert Day is October 14, and we’d like to help Maryland employers enjoy more of the good turnovers and fewer of the not-so-good ones. It can take months and costs thousands of dollars to replace an employee, so if
there are more resignation letters than pastries in your organization, and commuter benefits aren’t part of your recruitment and retention strategy, there’s no better time than now to re-evaluate your workplace commuter program. Commuter Choice Maryland offers free support to build programs that take advantage of federal and state tax incentives, saving many employers over $1,200 per employee per year. Become an Employer Partner and unlock free, customizable support with big returns!

Spotlight on Maryland’s Employer Partners
Check out the great things our two newest Employer Partners are doing to help their employees with robust commuter options! DAVIS Construction
Headquartered in Rockville, DAVIS Construction understands how important it is to give employees options and has found creative ways to support their commuting choices. DAVIS is transit-accessible; offers on-site amenities,
including a great food market, indoor bike parking, lockers and showers; and their telework options have been linked to a 5% increase in employee retention. They even offer their space to the community for bicycle education classes. Click the button below to read about the DAVIS commuter program for some inspiration on how to level up your workplace commute options.
As an international company, Abt Global fully embraced the idea that “work is a thing that you do,” not “always a place you go to” – and by offering a robust set of commuter benefits, this strategy has served them well in
their recruitment efforts and in reducing the organization’s carbon footprint significantly. At their Rockville location, Abt employees have access to transit subsidies and bike maintenance stipends, carpool matching, generous telework and flexible scheduling and even a first/last mile shuttle to connect to transit. Celebrating Maryland Employers and Commuter Connections
As part of the Commuter Connections 50th Anniversary celebration on October 2, the annual Employer Awards ceremony was held to acknowledge the leadership that employers across the D.C. region are taking to provide impactful
commuter programs and benefits to their employees. Congratulations to Horizon LLC, one of our Employer Partners, who received a well-deserved Employer Award for their great transit pass program! We’d also like to recognize Montgomery County Department of Transportation for receiving the Employer Outreach Team Award. And, of course, a huge congratulations to Commuter Connections for their dedication over the decades. We are excited to see what the next 50 years brings for commuter options in the region!

Steps away from Walktober 2024
The Moore/Miller Administration wants to transform our transportation system and provide Marylanders accessible, equitable and sustainable options across the entire state, ensuring our
transportation infrastructure investments connect all Marylanders to life’s opportunities and that no one is left behind. Not only is walking recognized as a healthy choice for transportation access, but it’s also our official state exercise! To heighten awareness and to educate Marylanders about the importance of walking and walkability, MDOT,
together with many partner organizations, is pleased to present the fifth annual Walktober. Throughout the month, MDOT and partners will be sharing information, events and webinars about walk-related programs, policies and initiatives. For fresh insights to promote walking and walkability near you, check out the Walktober website for a full list of events! Click here to view and register for this year's free Walkinar (webinar) series line up. Click here to learn more about celebrating Walk Maryland Day on
October 2 as either a Walk Leader or Sole Mate. And don't forget! If you walk to work (during Walktober or any time throughout the year), be sure to log your trips with the free incenTrip app and turn those commutes into cash and other rewards!
