Reduction of Truck Emissions at Port Facilities Grant Program - April 29, 2024 MDOT will receive $642,258 to replace one diesel-powered street sweeper with one zero-emission unit to be used
at the Port of Baltimore for moving cars and light trucks. Funding also will be used to research and develop the adoption of electric Power Take Off (ePTO) devices on carrier trucks, which average two hours of engine idling per trip while loading or unloading. Wider adoption of ePTO’s will significantly reduce truck idling and emissions at ports. Airport Infrastructure Grants – April 25, 2024 FAA
awarded $2,370,000 for improvement to Easton Airport. This project will improve Runway 22 safety area and enhance the safety of operations at the airport. This project includes continued construction site preparation, including drainage. Thriving Communities Program (TCP) - April 15,
2024 The USDOT selected 52 communities across 35 states to receive technical assistance, planning and capacity building support. Garrett County will receive support to implement its 2022 Comprehensive Plan, which focuses on environmentally sustainable transportation improvements. The county will use the TCP support to help develop and
implement a county-wide trails master plan that will improve key routes. Thriving Communities Program, National Capacity Builder - April 15, 2024 Abt Associates Inc. will be partnering with Morgan State University to help urban and suburban
communities across Maryland coordinate transportation, land use, housing and economic development planning across a range of neighborhoods. The team will provide technical assistance to help selected communities access and successfully use federal funds, and build the capacity needed to successfully identify, design and implement long-term projects. Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) - April 2,
2024 The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) awarded the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) $550,000 to create a transit-oriented development implementation plan for the West Baltimore Red Line Station. The Red Line is a planned rapid transit connection between Woodlawn in western Baltimore County and Johns Hopkins-Bayview in southeast
Baltimore. If you have a recently awarded project that you would like to highlight in the next newsletter, reach out to us! |
Recently Submitted Grants Under the EPA Climate
Pollution Reduction Act program, MTA submitted the Eastern Bus Division Reconstruction Project, which, if funded, will support the electrification of MTA’s bus fleet through the deployment of battery-electric buses. In partnership with other Mid-Atlantic states, MDOT and the Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) submitted the Clean
Corridor Coalition – A Proposal for Zero Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Infrastructure along the I-95 Corridor, which, if funded, will initiate strategic planning and accelerate transformative investments in charging infrastructure along the I-95 corridor and adjacent roadways from Connecticut to Maryland. FTA updated the National Public Transportation Safety Plan in April 2024 to address new requirements in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to continue to promote FTA’s national safety program and advance transit safety throughout the industry. This Plan serves as
FTA’s primary guidance document to improve transit safety performance. The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation (USDOT/ US DOE) published a Public Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Playbook, which provides interactive resources to help communities plan and build the infrastructure needed to support a net zero-emission transportation system. The Playbook can help navigate key
considerations and drive local progress in EV infrastructure through videos, worksheets and additional resources.
