Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement Program - September 25, 2023
USDOT FRA announced $11,584,317 in funding for the Port of Baltimore's Strategic Acquisition of Battery Electric Locomotives Project. The project aligns with the selection criteria by enhancing resilience and allowing for the first-ever zero-exhaust
emissions locomotives at an east coast port; benefiting Port employees, shippers, and disadvantaged communities and decreasing air emissions and noise.
USDOT FRA announced $8,800,000 in funding for the Penn-Camden Connector Project. The project will help advance efforts to provide a rail connection between the Penn and Camden lines, which will improve
operations and reliability for passenger rail and freight train service. The project also aligns with the selection criteria by improving the ability to meet existing and anticipated demand as it will support MTA’s future efforts to relocate the MARC trainset storage facility, which will enable Amtrak to advance its plans to redevelop Baltimore’s Penn Station and Union Station in Washington, D.C.
