Areas of Persistent Poverty - July 20, 2023 USDOT FTA
announced funding for Shore Transit, which operates on Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore, will receive $327,600 to conduct an evaluation of its transit system design. The study will focus on ensuring disadvantaged communities have transit access and that the transportation needs of the community are met. USDOT FTA announced funding for Harford Transit LINK in northeastern
Maryland will receive $127,500 to develop a plan to initiate microtransit service, improving access to jobs, schools, and healthcare for individuals who live in areas of persistent poverty. The project will help Harford County continue to implement transportation opportunities that enhance the social, economic, and environmental wellbeing of the community. Highway Safety Grants - July 12, 2023 Governor Wes Moore announced the distribution of almost $1 million in state highway safety grants through the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office to 33 organizations and law enforcement agencies for initiatives to promote pedestrian and bicyclist safety and local strategic highway safety plans.
Airport Improvement Program Grant Award - July 11, 2023 USDOT Federal Aviation Administration awarded the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) three projects totaling
$16,181,500. Taxiway F, Phase 2 will shift/reconfigure an existing Taxiway. BWI Thurgood Marshall Decarbonization Study and Martin Airport Decarbonization Study will conduct energy efficient assessments. |

USDOT released a Rural Electric Vehicle (EV) Toolkit as a resource to help a variety of rural community stakeholders scope, plan, and identify ways to fund electric mobility charging infrastructure for broader public or private use. The USDOT also has an Urban EV Toolkit intended for a variety of urban stakeholders, including states, local communities,
transportation providers, nonprofits, and businesses. The USDOT Discretionary Grants Dashboard provides communities with an overview of discretionary grant opportunities that can help meet their transportation infrastructure needs. The Dashboard also includes Federal grant programs outside of USDOT that may be of particular interest to rural communities. If you are representing a local entity and are interested in receiving a letter of support from MDOT for a current or upcoming project, please complete this request form. We will need at least two full weeks upon receiving the information to route for signature. |
