Warner Street Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Project Grant Award - June 5, 2023
USDOT's Federal Railroad Administration awarded the Maryland Department of Transportation's Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) up to a $1.53M Rail Crossing Elimination Program grant to support planning activities and construction of minor safety improvements at an existing at-grade crossing, as well as fund a long-term study to grade-separate the crossing. Warner Street is a growing entertainment district in Baltimore City, and the project will advance
pedestrian-railway safety solutions to benefit the area.
University of Maryland Battery-Electric Buses Project Grant Award - June 26, 2023
USDOT’s Federal Transit
Administration awarded the University of Maryland, College Park $39.86M from the Low- and No-Emission Grant Program to support the purchase of battery-electric buses and associated charging equipment to replace older vehicles for their public transportation fleet. The project will ensure continued service reliability, maintain a state of good repair and, by improving air quality, advance environmental justice in the College Park community.
Mondawmin Transit Hub Project Grant Award - June 28, 2023
USDOT awarded the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) $20M from the RAISE Grant Program to fund state of good repair investments at Mondawmin Transit Station. This includes,
station enhancements, reconstructing nine intersections with complete streets enhancements, constructing a dedicated bicycle trail, and improving pedestrian-only right-of-way. Other enhancements include ADA pedestrian infrastructure upgrades, energy storage generation, and stormwater management infrastructure improvements. The project has strong elements of safety; environmental sustainability; quality of life; mobility and community connectivity; state of good repair; partnership and
collaboration; and innovation.
Creating Equitable Connections on the Capital Trails Network - June 28, 2023
USDOT awarded the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission $25M from the RAISE Grant Program to fund the rehabilitation
and construction of six multi-use paths to fill gaps in the bicycle and pedestrian network in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This project aligns with the Maryland and Washington D.C. emission reduction and clean energy plans. The project also implements stormwater management best practices, which will help the Chesapeake Bay's ecosystem.
