The Maryland Department of Transportation Kicks Off New Long-Range Transportation Plan -
Your Input is Needed |
Marylanders deserve a safe, equitable, convenient, and connected multimodal transportation system and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) needs your input to help us deliver it. MDOT is kicking off the new Maryland Transportation Plan (MTP), Maryland’s long-range transportation plan, that will guide
the state's vision and corresponding policy and investment priorities for the next 20 years. We are at the early development stages for the 2050 MTP, and your input will help shape the state's transportation plan. A public survey is available for Marylanders to provide input on the proposed 2050 MTP guiding principles, goals, and priorities. Please click here to take the short survey by May 5, 2023, and help us make transportation work even better for you. The 2050 MTP proposed guiding principles, goals and priorities will be modified and adapted throughout the planning process that will run through 2023 by incorporating input received from Maryland's residents and visitors. MDOT plans to finalize the 2050 MTP by January 2024. To learn more about the state's long-range transportation
plan, click here. Transportation always works better when citizens have a role in shaping decisions. Please complete this survey and help us make the 2050 MTP’s vision a reality. For more information or to provide input, please email MDOTMTP@mdot.maryland.gov or visit the 2050 MTP website by clicking the button below. |
Maryland Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is leading the development of the statewide 2050 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (2050 BPMP). As required by state law, the BPMP is updated every five years along with the Maryland Transportation Plan (MTP) to establish short- and long-range goals and strategies to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and access. The 2050 BPMP also will address other vulnerable road users such as those using e-scooters, e-bikes, and mobility-assistive devices, taking a data-driven approach to policy and
infrastructure recommendations. After completing an existing conditions analysis, MDOT is conducting stakeholder and public outreach in spring 2023 to help define specific elements and initiatives to include in the BPMP. All are encouraged to take the public survey available on the project website. Spring community events will include an online event Thursday, April 13, 2023, and an
in-person event at the Howard County Green Fest Saturday, April 15, 2023. MDOT will continue community outreach efforts through the summer and fall, with the 2050 BPMP scheduled for completion in January 2024. Click the button below to visit the 2050 BPMP website, which includes plan materials, maps, and a public survey. For more information, contact bikepedinfo@mdot.maryland.gov. |
MDOT Interactive Tools and Resources - Now Available Attainment Report Dashboard The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) publishes an annual Attainment Report on Transportation System Performance (AR) to identify successes, challenges, and strategies for improving the transportation services delivered to Maryland residents. The 2023 AR can be found here. To accompany the AR, MDOT creates a web application to further highlight the data and metrics that comprise the bulk of the report’s substantive message. For 2023, MDOT created an ArcGIS webpage that showcases more than 50 ArcGIS Data Dashboards to illustrate, in data form, this
year's Attainment Report. Click here to view the MDOT Attainment Report – By the
Numbers interactive hub. Interactive CTP Map The Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP) is Maryland's six-year capital budget for transportation projects. The annual CTP report contains projects and programs
across the Department. The CTP can be found here. Check out the recently published CTP Interactive
Map to learn more about transportation projects under development around the state here. |

2022 Maryland Commuter Survey Results The Maryland Commuter Survey (MCS) is a new survey of adult workers in Maryland designed to measure annual trends in commuting and remote work. The 2022 MCS provides a baseline understanding of
commuting rates and patterns as Maryland exits the COVID-19 pandemic. Key findings include that the majority of Maryland workers have hybrid or remote work schedules. Workers are eager for more multimodal options, but nearly 90% of commuters regularly drive. Future iterations will evaluate how Marylanders are returning to in-person work, relationships between where commuters work and live, and post-COVID transportation choices. Check out the fact sheet and final report here. |
The OPCP Rail & Intermodal Freight Team Visits the MTA MARC Train Service's Riverside Heavy Maintenance Building On March 13, 2023, the OPCP Rail & Intermodal Freight (OPCP RIF) team made a field visit to MTA MARC Train Service to see the newly completed Riverside Heavy Maintenance Building. MARC
Director Dean Del Peschio gave the OPCP RIF team a tour of the MARC yard to contribute to their background knowledge of the MARC operation. OPCP RIF and MTA MARC coordinate on multiple railroad issues statewide and continue to look for collaboration opportunities. Currently, OPCP RIF and MTA MARC are coordinating on the recently reestablished Maryland Operation
Lifesaver Program. State Coordinator Stacey Beckett, MARC Director Dean Del Peschio and OPCP RIF team members John Thomas and Thomas Mackay completed the Operation Lifesaver Authorized Volunteer Training to become official state representatives who can speak on behalf of Operation Lifesaver about rail safety. Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit public safety
education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities, and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and preventing trespassing on or near railroad tracks. For more information, or if you are interested in volunteering to spread the rail safety message, visit oli.org. |
