FY23 Bikeways Awards Announced The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced the Kim Lamphier Bikeways Network Program awards for the FY23 grant cycle. MDOT awarded $2.6 million to
21 projects, which will improve bicycle transportation access across the state. The autumn announcement was made as part of $35.7 million in discretionary grant funding for bicycle and pedestrian projects. The Bikeways Program awards will fund the planning, design, and construction of low-traffic-stress bicycle facilities including: - Feasibility studies for shared-use paths in Gaithersburg, Galena, Laurel, Rockville, Spencerville, St. Michael’s, St. Charles, and along MD 611 between Ocean City and Assateague Island.
- Completing the design for the Martin Luther King Boulevard sidepath in Baltimore City; Phases 2 and 3 of the Frederick & Pennsylvania Rail Trail in Walkersville; and
Phases 2 and 3 of the Salisbury Rail Trail.
- Implementing bicycle counter programs in Baltimore City, Rockville, and Salisbury.
- Studying bike network improvements in Cambridge and Takoma Park
- Constructing bicycle parking in Taneytown and a protected bikeway in Salisbury.

FY24 Bikeways Letters of Intent Letters of Intent (LOIs) are now being accepted for potential Bikeways Program applicants. LOIs enable MDOT to better assist applicants to address any issues prior to applications opening in May 2023 for Fiscal Year 2024. Simply
email mdbikeways@mdot.maryland.gov with the project’s title, description, physical limits, anticipated costs
including Bikeways funding request amount, and contact information. More information on Letters of Intent can be found on the Bikeways website. |
