The Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP) is Maryland's six-year capital budget for transportation projects. The CTP contains projects and programs across the Department. The MDOT released the Draft FY 2023 - FY 2028 CTP Report on September 1. To read the Draft report, click the button below.

In response to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), MDOT prepared the Maryland State Plan for National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Funding Deployment, describing how $57 million in federal funds will be allocated to EV charging infrastructure in Maryland. The funds will be distributed in Federal Fiscal Years (FFYs) 2022 through 2028, with the primary objective of building out and certifying Maryland’s Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs). Once the AFCs are certified, funding may be used to build out additional community public charging infrastructure throughout Maryland.

 

On July 15, 2022, The NEVI Formula Funding Deployment Plan was submitted to The U.S. Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. The Plan was approved on September 14, 2022.

Walking is an activity that’s part of daily life for many Marylanders, and is recognized as a healthy transportation choice. In fact, walking is Maryland’s official state exercise! But with issues of pedestrian safety and access, many communities recognize that walking, and improving the walkability of our neighborhoods, require public attention and action.  
 
Join us for Maryland’s second annual WALKTOBER, a month where the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and partnering agencies will promote and host events and webinars across the state. These events and webinars will spotlight Maryland pedestrian safety, health, as well as commuting options available in current walk programs and initiatives.
 
Throughout October, working in coordination with several state agencies and other partners, MDOT will share informational resources and a series of free webinars, or Walkinars, that are open to all. The month also includes Walk Maryland Day on October 5th, a celebration that encourages all Marylanders to step out to enjoy walking or some other form of physical activity.
 
Throughout Walktober, you can learn how to support walking and walkability in your community, and how to partner with others to help identify and address issues related to safety and accessibility across the state.

The LTS analysis will help MDOT identify bicycle network gaps and improve connectivity, as well as help local agencies and stakeholders assess and prioritize network needs. MDOT invites local partners and stakeholders to use the LTS data in their planning and project development efforts. Based on nationally accepted standards, the LTS will be updated as more and better data become available.

Every year Geographic Information (GIS) Professionals/ cartographers descent upon San Diego for the world's largest conference of mapmaking and geospatial data networking. The reason for the trip is ESRI's annual user conference. ESRI holds the majority market share of GIS software (through its ArcGIS line). Their annual user conference is informative, fun, and over-the-top. Each year, tens of thousands of users from hundreds of countries come to San Diego to revel in data nerdiness and soak in the sun and knowledge.

 

After two years of virtual conferences due to COVID-19, the user conference was back in full swing this July. At the conference, every attendee (there were nearly 18,000 this year) gets a complimentary copy of ESRI's annual "Map Book." ESRI staff searched educational material, government forms, grants, plans, websites, etc. to pull in a curated cartographic collection "showcasing maps and applications that use ArcGIS to evaluate the sustainability of resources, determine efficient transportation routes, mitigate the effects of natural disasters, and much more."

 

This year, the 2022 edition included MDOT representation with a 3-dimensional map created by MDOT GIS Planner and award-winning cartographer Andrew Bernish. The map depicts the Maryland counties with the longest commute times (per US Census Data). The counties are extruded in 3-dimensions to enable viewers to easily visualize and compare commuting times. The map was used in a MDOT presentation discussing economic development strategies for Maryland counties and used it to encourage and challenge counties to prioritize their own residents as they work to attract new job opportunities.
